Single page websites have been a huge trend in web design for the past few years. While they look great and have features like the parallax scroll effect, they aren’t the best for SEO. Luckily, there are a few ways in which you can optimize your single page website so it gets ranked higher by search engines.
There are two main SEO techniques used for a single page site that you wouldn’t necessarly use on a multi-page site.
Multiple H1 or H2 tags
This may seem contrary to what you’ve heard in the past about semantic markup. While this isn’t something that is suggested for a multiple page site, placing multiple H1 and H2 tags on your single page site (remember to only add one per section) will denote the sections of your page to the search engine crawling your site.
The other important technique to use on your single page site is to use anchor tags. Make sure when doing this that you use key-words that are relevant and are words people will search for. These links are also used to denote the sections of your page and are therefore extremely important for SEO on a single page website.
Along with the above techniques, it is very important that you also focus on other SEO techniques. Chances are, you’re competing against multi-page sites so it is essential that your page be optimized so it will be able to stand up to theirs in search engine rankings. Here are some additional techniques to improve the SEO of your site.
Add a Blog Section
This may seem like a hassle to some, but it can really help your SEO. The reason for this is that it creates opportunities for people and search engines to find your site.
This is a similar idea to adding a blog to your site. The added benefit is that as a guest blogger, even more people will find you and your site. Additionally, as a guest blogger you should be able to add a link to your web page in your byline. Google and other search engines love it when other sites link to you as it gives you and your site authority!
Another thing search engines and visitors love is new content. When you update your page, they will have a reason to come back and look around again. The more search engine bots visit your page, the better.
